Four-day fast at Monroe Park to urge Majority Leader Eric Cantor to end nation's greatest moral crisis

RICHMOND – After journeying more than 14,000 miles and criss-crossing 30 states, the national "Fast for Families Across America” campaign arrives in Richmond on Thursday, April 3 to urge Majority Leader Eric Cantor to champion commonsense immigration reform and to schedule a vote this year.

At an 11:00am press event at Monroe Park, "Fast for Families" leaders Eliseo Medina and DJ Yoon and Sojourners' President and Founder Jim Wallis will join Richmond elected and immigrant rights leaders to launch the four day fast. Hundreds of faith and immigrant rights advocates will then march to the Virginia Republican Headquarters to stress the urgency of fixing our nation's broken immigration system.

The four-day fast, which will be based in a tent at the historic Richmond park, will feature a full schedule of daily events, community meetings, and prayer services from Thursday to Sunday.

Last November, “Fast for Families” reignited the debate on immigration reform as faith, labor and civil rights leaders – including Eliseo Medina, Cristian Avila, Rudy Lopez and DJ Yoon – fasted for 22 days at the doorstep of the U.S. Capitol. Richmond is the latest stop in the “Fast for Families” campaign that is touring more than 75 congressional districts to empower constituents to call on Republican and Democratic U.S. House members to vote and enact immigration reform with a path to citizenship this year.

WHAT: National bus tour for immigration reform arrives in Richmond to urge Rep. Cantor and Virginia congressional delegation to take immediate action to fix our broken immigration system. Hundreds of advocates will march to Virginia Republican Headquarters.
