“Fast for Families” to Break 4-Day Fast in Goodlatte’s Backyard, Urge Vote on Immigration Reform

100+ Women to Take Charge of Fast as “Fast for Families” Leaders Join Harrisonburg Community to Call on Rep. Goodlatte to Champion Commonsense Immigration Reform

Harrisonburg, VA – Today, following a visit to Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s (VA-6) office, “Fast for Families Across America” leaders will join constituents and faith, labor and community leaders to hold a press conference, urging the Republican House representative to call for a vote on commonsense immigration reform this year.

After fasting in Richmond for four days to call on Congressman Eric Cantor to deliver a vote on immigration reform, “Fast for Families” leaders Eliseo Medina, DJ Yoon, Cristian Avila, Rudy Lopez and Lisa Sharon Harper will end their fast and hand over the charge to more than a hundred women who will go without food for 48 hours in the National Mall in Washington, DC. A small delegation of women, representing the Women’s Fast for Families, will meet with the five immigration reform advocates at the Mennonite University to receive the charge of the fast.

At 2:30 PM, “Fast for Families” leaders Eliseo Medina and Dae Joong (DJ) Yoon, joined by Harrisonburg constituents and leaders, will hold a press conference to report back on the visit to Rep. Goodlatte’s office and underscore the moral urgency for reform.

The “Fast for Families Across America” bus tour kicked off in Los Angeles on February 24 and has covered more than 30 states and 75 congressional districts. Last Thursday, the campaign stopped in Richmond for four days, setting up a tent in Monroe Park as leaders went without food and engaged Rep. Cantor’s office, his donors and constituents across his district to move immigration reform to a vote this year.
