For Immediate Release: January 9, 2013

Richmond, VA – Virginia Organizing’s Board Chairperson, Sandra A. Cook, released a statement following Governor Bob McDonnell’s State of the Commonwealth address on Wednesday evening.

Cook said:

“Virginia Organizing commends the Governor for supporting the automatic restoration of civil rights for non-violent offenders. Like the Governor, we believe in the opportunity for redemption and we applaud efforts to reintegrate those who have served their time back into society.

However, Virginia Organizing is extremely disappointed that Governor McDonnell fails to address the needs of more than 400,000 Virginians who would receive Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act’s expansion. Expanding Medicaid creates well-paying jobs and provides one of the most basic needs for our citizens.”

Virginia Organizing is a statewide grassroots organization that brings people together to create a more just Virginia.
