Speak Out for Virginia

by Ray Scher, State Governing Board Treasurer

speakoutYesterday, I participated in a conference call about Medicaid expansion where I learned that Kentucky has reduced the number of working uninsured people in their state by 36 percent thanks to Medicaid expansion. Virginia has reduced the number of working uninsured people as well, thanks to options that the Affordable Care Act gives people, but not nearly as much as our neighbors in Kentucky.

As you know, we have been working hard back in the home districts of state legislators throughout the year.

But today, we must speak up directly to our state legislators while they are in Richmond.

Today, our legislators are doing everything they can to avoid expanding Medicaid. They are blaming high costs, the federal government, and fraud. Supporters of Medicaid expansion have answered these objections time and time again and now we are seeing significant reductions in the uninsured rate in Kentucky while Virginians are still struggling, still going without insurance, and still being taxed for Medicaid expansion without getting any return on our investment.

Please take a moment to call your state Delegate in Richmond and tell her or him that you are a constituent and you support Medicaid expansion for Virginians now. You can find contact information for your legislators at http://bit.ly/VaGA.

Thank you for raising your voice on this important issue to make sure Virginians are heard loud and clear. We need to move forward on Medicaid expansion and our state legislators need to know that we still care about this important issue.

Sincerely,

Ray Scher
State Governing Board Treasurer
