With Historic “Yes” Vote, Congressman Perriello Proves He Listens to Virginia Residents And Is Willing To Stand Up For Them

Martinsville, Virginia–The Virginia Organizing Project ,Health Care for America Now along with partners from Communications Workers of America and Change That Works gathered outside of Congressman Tom Perriello’s Martinsville office to thank Congressman Tom Perriello for listening to Virginia’s working families and small businesses, not the insurance companies, and voting to pass comprehensive health care reform legislation through the U.S House of Representatives.

“We are proud of Congressman Tom Perriello for doing the right thing and voting ‘yes’ on health care reform,” said Shuna Ingram, Martinsville resident and member of the Virginia Organizing Project.  “This is an historic moment for Virginia and for America, and Congressman Perriello proved he is on our side by listening to the people of his district and not the corporate lobbyists and big insurance companies. Thanks to the Congressman’s “yes” vote, we can now look forward to the security of good health care at a price we can afford and not have to worry about being denied care or going bankrupt trying to pay for the care we need.”

“As a working Virginian in the middle of their life, the passage of health insurance reform is especially important for me. I have had knee replacement surgery and other health issues which could be classified as pre-existing conditions. Now that legislation has been passed and signed, I no longer have to worry about that. It is a huge relief,” said Jim White, President of Communications Workers Local 2277. “I know that my Congressman, Tom Perriello, has taken a lot of flack for his vote for health insurance reform, but this is mostly because people do not understand the many ways the bill will benefit them. I commend him for taking the time to understand and study the legislation. I also commend him for voting his conscience and for what is truly best for the district.”
