Richmond, Va.—Virginia Organizing Chairperson Sandra A. Cook issued the following statement in response to Governor Bob McDonnell’s announcement that he will automatically restore the civil rights of non-violent former felons:

“This is great news! Virginia Organizing could not be happier to know that many non-violent former felons will no longer be silenced and shut out of the democratic process. Thank you, Governor Bob McDonnell, for making it possible for people to reintegrate into society more fully.

Virginia Organizing has supported, and will continue to support, an automatic restoration of voting rights for all former felons who have served their time and paid for their crimes."
