Virginia Organizing Responds to President’s Budget

April 10, 2013 9:35 pm by: Category: Media Releases A+ / A-

For Immediate Release: April 9, 2013

Charlottesville, Va. – Sandra A. Cook, Chairperson of Virginia Organizing, a non-partisan statewide organization, issued this response to President Barack Obama’s budget proposal:

“Virginia Organizing is incredibly disappointed that President Obama chose to target Social Security benefits and make reductions to a program already pre-paid by those who receive it. While "chained CPI" calculations for Social Security may seem like a good idea to wealthy bureaucrats, here in the real world, people like me, my mom, my sister, and millions of other seniors and people with disabilities rely on the money we paid into the system to help us survive. We need to strengthen and protect Social Security, not cut it.”
