Harrisonburg, Va.—Virginia Organizing will hold a demonstration at U.S. Representative Bob Goodlatte’s Harrisonburg office on Friday, November 20 at 3 p.m. to stand in support of President Barack Obama’s executive order that created Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) to provide relief for parents of U.S.-born children and expanded the popular Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The local Chapter will also send a welcoming message to refugees that the House of Representatives voted to block from entering the U.S. on Thursday.
Virginia Organizing Harrisonburg Chapter leader Don Franks will participate in this demonstration. “As a nation, we should welcome the Syrian refugees because they are victims of terrorism and we have always welcomed immigrants and refugees,” said Franks.
“We are a nation of immigrants. It is a powerful message that President Obama issued an executive order to provide relief to immigrants in the U.S. and we celebrate that,” said Franks. “But we cannot stop at relief. We need comprehensive immigration reform.”
Virginia Organizing has demonstrated at Representative Goodlatte’s office before and called on the Congressman to represent all the people in his district.
