Virginia Organizing to Host UMASS Students for Alternative Spring Break

For Immediate Release: March 13, 2015

Virginia Beach, Va.—The South Hampton Roads Virginia Organizing Chapter will host the University of Massachusetts Alliance Community Transformation (UACT) students for an alternative spring break to expose students to grassroots organizing and community change efforts.

“We are so excited to have the students here to learn more about community organizing and community development,” said South Hampton Roads Chapter leader Margaret McCabe. “They are going to learn so much about climate change, sea level rise, and how to work for change by taking action steps in our community.”

The students will be canvassing neighborhoods and businesses, working with community leaders on outreach, learning from community organizers, and participating in “A Flood of Voices” event on Thursday, March 19.

Students and Chapter leaders will be available March 14-20 for interviews. Please contact Amanda Pohl at 804-337-1912 or amanda@virginia-organizing.org to schedule an interview.

Virginia Organizing is a non-partisan statewide grassroots organization that brings people together to create a more just Virginia.
