What: Demonstration to protest U.S. Reps. Robert Hurt and Morgan Griffith's votes to give millionaires tax breaks, raise taxes on working Americans

When: Wednesday, September 12  — 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Virginia Workforce Center (233 Commonwealth Boulevard West, Martinsville, VA 24112)

Martinsville, VA: U.S. Representatives Robert Hurt and Morgan Griffith recently voted in favor of H.R. 8, a bill that gives millionaires an average $160,000 tax break while raising taxes for 25 million working Americans by ending a tax credit that makes college more affordable. Virginia Organizing is protesting their votes with a demonstration on Wednesday, September 12.

The action is part of a National Day of Action to protest the vote to extend tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent. Demonstrators will deliver a $160,000 check made out to "Millionaires" with Reps. Hurt and Griffith's photo on them. The message from Virginia Organizing is clear: everyone ought to pay his or her fair share of taxes, but the ultra-wealthy are getting tax breaks while families in the middle and working class are picking up the slack.
