Norfolk, Va.—The South Hampton Roads Chapter of Virginia Organizing will deliver letters, postcards, and other notes of support to U.S. Senator Mark Warner for strengthening and protecting Social Security on Friday, May 31 at noon. The delivery is part of a statewide campaign to deliver the same message to four local offices of Senator Warner and the Richmond office of U.S. Senator Tim Kaine.
Peggy Caverly, a Virginia Organizing leader in South Hampton Roads, said, “As a senior, I’m particularly concerned with any attempt to cut Social Security. We have done what we were supposed to do—we worked hard, paid into Social Security, and are living on fixed incomes, watching our budgets. The government needs to come through for us. We should stop protecting corporate interests and tax loopholes for the wealthiest instead of putting the burden on seniors!”
Virginia Organizing will deliver a letter from Chairperson Sandra A. Cook, a letter from the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, postcards from people directly affected by potential cuts to Social Security, and other letters and notes of support for strengthening and protecting the program.
