Virginia’s health care crisis is bad. It’s so bad that Remote Area Medical—the organization that provides medical care to thousands of people that our health care system leaves out—will set up camp this weekend an hour away from Speaker of the House of Delegates Bill Howell’s home district of Fredericksburg.
Why does Speaker Howell continue to deny that Virginians need access to affordable health care and insurance when people will line up and camp out for days to be seen by doctors in his district’s backyard?
On this day, Veteran’s Day, Virginia is honoring those who served our country by denying more than 22,000 veterans health care.
We cannot stay silent in the face of this injustice. Virginians are suffering because Medicaid expansion is not politically expedient for legislators who don’t like “Obamacare.” Virginians are being denied health insurance while our General Assembly denies that we need Medicaid expansion.
We’re passing up $5 million a day from the federal government while Virginians continue to put their jobs, health, and lives on the line without health insurance.
Will you take action? Now that the election is over, you know who will represent you in the 2016 Virginia General Assembly. Will you call your legislator and tell her or him that Virginians need Medicaid expansion and that we cannot wait? You can find contact information for your legislators by clicking here.
Are you one of the people who falls in the Medicaid gap or do you know someone who does? If you are willing to raise your voice on this issue and want to be connected to others who are doing the same, please email us at info@virginia-organizing.org and tell us more about your story.
Thank you for your support and for taking action!
Sincerely,
