The 2024 General Assembly session begins Wednesday, January 10 and ends March 9. Our power as an organization is in the people who take action with us, and thanks to you we’ve built a lot of power to make ourselves heard.
Most of our chapters have already met with their delegates and state senators in district to discuss our priorities. Once the session begins, members from every area will travel to Richmond to lobby for the legislation that comes closest to meeting our goals.
Our Priorities for 2024:
In 2024, Virginia Organizing will focus on supporting proposed constitutional amendments for the automatic restoration of voting rights and reproductive freedom. Additionally, our priorities include:
- Affordable housing and tenant protections
- Funding for mental health treatment instead of criminalization
- Protection from utility shutoffs and high energy costs
- Affordable child care and higher wages for providers
- Equitable school funding
- Extending Medicaid coverage to all children, regardless of immigration status
Please contact your state senator and delegate and ask them to support these priorities. You can find them at this link. Let us know if you want to meet with them in person during the session by emailing info@virginia-organizing.org.
Throughout the session we will also be updating our priorities with bills that we support. Keep track of our progress with this document. We can win many of these priorities this year if we work together and make our power visible in Richmond.
