What: Public demonstration to support the Affordable Care Act
When: Thursday, January 12 at 12 noon
Where: U.S. Senator Mark Warner’s Norfolk Office (101 West Main Street, Norfolk, VA 23510)
Norfolk, Va.—The South Hampton Roads Chapter of Virginia Organizing will hold a public demonstration in support of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and health care for all people on Thursday, January 12 at noon in front of U.S. Senator Mark Warner’s Norfolk Office.
In addition to a demonstration, community members will share stories about how the Affordable Care Act has improved their lives and benefited their families and will write letters to Senator Warner asking him to do everything in his power to support the ACA and expand health coverage to more people.
“Because of the Affordable Care Act, I am able to receive health care through my parents’ coverage while I am a college student,” said Geena Felton. “Congress has yet to come up with a better plan or a plan at all. It would be a shame to study to be a nurse and then not be able to receive health services for myself.”
“I am scared of what Congress will do with the Affordable Care Act,” said Angela Davis. “I had an aneurysm October 2015 and stayed in the hospital intensive care unit for five days. My bill was well over $100,000, and was paid in full — I only had to cover a $25 copay. If we lose the ACA, what happens next time and to people in similar situations?”
Virginia Organizing is calling on Congress to improve on existing plans, close the gap, and expand coverage for more people by holding events across the state in January and February as Congress is in session. To find a full schedule of events, visit www.virginia-organizing.org/events.
