Dave Reading: January 2012 Leader of the Month

January 28, 2012 1:50 pm by: Category: Leader A+ / A-

Dave is an invaluable volunteer in the Charlottesville office. After moving to Virginia two years ago, he looked around for an organization that shared his views and desire to bring communities together. He immediately began volunteering with Virginia Organizing and even started a joint plan of work—Open Source Computer Recycling—under the Virginia Organizing umbrella.

Dave also volunteers with Community Bikes of Charlottesville—another program group of Virginia Organizing. “Some of these organizations like Community Bikes could not exist if not for Virginia Organizing,” said Dave.

Dave has taken on many issues through Virginia Organizing. He has joined big bank protests, supported health care reform and keeping the ban on uranium mining. He traveled to Washington to protest the XL Pipeline and to Richmond to call on House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to work on jobs  for the middle class.

Another project Dave is passionate about is Transition Towns, a non-profit seeking to bring local groups together to work towards common solutions. Transition Towns is working to bring Charlottesville and Albemarle groups together by providing resources and training to make communities more sustainable.
