THOUSANDS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES TO PARTICIPATE IN SUPPORT OF COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM

Charlottesville, Va.—On the heels of a successful August recess for immigration reform supporters, Virginia Organizing will join immigrant rights organizations and other community groups across the country for the National Day for Dignity and Respect on October 5.

Virginia Organizing will hold events in Fredericksburg, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Charlottesville, and Harrisonburg to give an opportunity for directly affected individuals and immigration reform allies to show support for comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship.

“This year, Virginia Organizing did a lot of work on immigration reform,” said Virginia Organizing Chairperson Sandra A. Cook. “We shared stories, we rallied, we gathered, we generated thousands of phone calls and we met with almost all of Virginia’s Congressional delegation to talk about immigration reform and ask for their support. The message is loud and clear: we need a comprehensive immigration reform solution with a path to citizenship. This is what a majority of Virginians want and the time is now.”

The announcement of Virginia Organizing’s participation in the National Day for Dignity and Respect comes after a very successful immigration reform gathering featuring U.S. Representative Luis Gutierrez in Harrisonburg on August 26, and a productive meeting with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s office on September 4.
